As of Tuesday morning, just over three day after hitting shelves, Adele’s 25 has sold more than 2,433,000 albums. That sum beat the single-week record for an album since Nielsen began tracking sales in 1991, set by *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, when it debuted with 2,416,000 in the week ending March 26, 2000.
The star hasn’t made the album, released through XL/Columbia Records, available on music streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music, however her previous albums “19” and “21”, as well as “Hello”, are available for streaming.
And the “Bye Bye Bye” hitmakers have now praised the “Hello” singer for her achievement.
“Adele’s a big Tottenham fan and, with Spurs well-represented in the England squad at the moment, there’s a chance she could agree to record the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 song”.
While Justin Timberlake has yet to comment, Joey Fatone is pleased it is Adele who has broken their record.
The 27-year-old is also on course to smash sales records in the United Kingdom, having sold 538,000 copies in the first 72 hours of release.
His bandmate Bass took to social media to offer his thoughts, adding, “We officially say Bye Bye Bye as @Adele says Hello to the World Record of Most Albums Sold In a Single Week”.
Eminem might have slagged them off, but the turn of the century was the reign of the boy bands and Backstreet Boys’ Black and Blue sold 1.591,000 in its first week – and broke the global sales record selling more than 5 million worldwide.
