$2500 Gold-Plated HTC Smartphone created in Honour of Cecil the Lion
The outrage surrounding the lion’s death has led to a huge online backlash against Walter Palmer, but if you’d rather honour Cecil’s memory in a more extravagant way, then Goldgenie’s handset could be just for you.
UK company Goldgenie is dedicated to creating outrageous luxury items like gold-plated electric uniwheels, diamond-bedazzled iPhones and 4,000 Apple Watches.
The phone glitters like gold and etched on the back is a drawing of the legendary lion and a somewhat insincere inscription reading “For Cecil and his Kingdom”.
“Goldgenie were moved to do something to help towards the conservation of his environment and prevention of other tragic losses from the game reserve”, the company said announcing the $2,560 Gold HTC One M9.
Cecil the Lion became a major news focus over the past week when it was discovered the celebrity big cat had been lured out of his sanctuary and killed by a hunter.
You can find more information about the phone here.
But would the lion really agree with a gold HTC One M9 with his face on the back?
A special limited edition golden HTC M9 is being launched to commemorate the life and killing of Cecil the Lion outside Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe.
Only 99 of the special edition smartphones will be made available for sale and 10% from every sale (£159) will be donated to Friends of Hwange.
