3 bodies found inside Vermont home, authorities say
A lady who misplaced custody of her 9-year-old daughter is “the alleged perpetrator” within the deaths of three kinfolk and accused in a felony cost of then heading to a close-by state workplace and gunning down the social employee concerned within the custody case. 8, 2015, that the three women found dead at a Berlin home Saturday morning were an aunt and two cousins of Herring.
The three people whose remains were found in the town of Berlin, not far from the state capital Montpelier, were related to Jody Herring, who was arrested on Friday after allegedly fatally shooting an employee of state Department of Children and Families in an ambush-style attack outside the department offices in Barre, Vermont.
The victims are all related to Jody Herring, who police say gunned down a DCF worker Friday as she left work.
The governor announced that the deaths of the three relatives of Herring was an ongoing investigation and would not release more information. Police said they found shell casings in the home, and two of the victims appear to have been shot.
In a statement Saturday afternoon, Shumlin said there was no reason to believe the incidents posed a continuing threat to the public.
The discovery of the three bodies came one day after a woman upset over losing custody of her child last month shot and killed a Vermont Department for Children and Families worker outside the DCF office in downtown Barre.
“I feel all Vermonters are as shocked, dismayed, horrified and grief-stricken as all of us are”, Shumlin stated. “I can not remember, in my lifetime, four people being murdered by the same alleged perpetrator”.
Barre Police Chief Tim Bombardier said Sunday he doesn’t expect any more bodies will be found in relation to the case.
Lt. Gov. Phil Scott stated he knew a number of members of the prolonged Herring household.
Authorities said Friday night that Sobel had been involved in a case that saw Herring’s daughter taken into state custody.
He said it was his understanding following conversations with relatives that Herring’s father had been one of 16 siblings in a very large family.
In the statement released Saturday, Sobel’s family thanked the community for its kindness during their ordeal and asked others to respect their privacy.
A man who said he cousin lives in the home said the news of the deaths rattled his tight-knit family.
Herring reportedly lost custody of her 9-year-old on July 9, police said. They mentioned, however, that Sobel’s death shouldn’t go unnoticed and should help raise awareness of the numerous dedicated professionals whose only goal is that of ensuring the welfare of children.
A small memorial was set up for the slain worker, Lara Sobel. “She had been providing public service for children and families for more than 14 years”. Following the investigation, Vermont passed a law designed to improve communications between the department, law enforcement and the courts.
