3 dead, several hurt in several shootings in Boston area
Three of the deaths occurred in two apparently gang-related shootings in Boston late Wednesday into early Thursday – a man in the city’s Mattapan neighbourhood and two men in the Roxbury section, about 3 miles away, according to the Boston Police Department. Two people were shot and killed in Roxbury, Boston police said.
The shootings came amid a violent night for the Boston area.
Mayor Marty Walsh issued a statement on Thursday morning, saying that he was “extremely saddened and disturbed.”.
Three people were shot at a family get-together at 40 Hosmer St in Mattapan.
At midnight, Ernst Street remained closed to traffic and at least 10 police cruisers dotted the road.
Mayor Martin Walsh said in a statement: “I am extremely saddened and disturbed by the violence that took place overnight in our community; this has to stop”.
Also on Wednesday night, a woman was murdered outside Braza Bar and Grill on School Street in Everett and a man was killed in a barrage of gunfire outside the Newtowne Court housing complex in Cambridge.
Police in Cambridge, meanwhile, say the driver of a vehicle seen leaving the area of a fatal shooting near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology at 8:41 p.m.is “cooperating”, and they are still actively searching for suspects. The victim, who’s in his 20s, hasn’t been identified. Both later succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the hospitals, police said.
The victims’ names have not been released and there was no word on any arrests in any of the shootings.
“I express my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were lost during these senseless acts of violence, ” he said.
