3 killed, 2 hurt after fiery Spartanburg wreck
Authorities say three people have been killed in a fiery wreck after a auto lost control and hit a tree on a Spartanburg street.
Spartanburg County Corner Rusty Clevenger said three of the occupants died at the scene and two others were taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital where one later died from injuries.
USC Upstate Chancellor Thomas Moore said in a statement there are no words to describe the loss to the campus of 6,000 students. Sarah went to all the athletic events at USC Upstate to show support for all the sports.
“Josh was the most generous man I ever met in my entire life”, Sam Cheshier, a soccer player at USC Upstate, said.
A resident of Greenville, Campbell was a junior at USC Upstate where he majored in business administration.
Vande Berg was a senior and a member of the school’s tennis team.
The university website notes that Campbell “was an intense (soccer) player whose competitiveness made those around him play harder”.
“Sarah was a wonderful daughter”, Todd Vande Berg said in a story posted on the university’s website. This tragedy will have tremendous impact on the Upstate community, individually and collectively.
The university has scheduled a candlelight vigil that will begin Monday at 7 p.m. It will be held at the USC Upstate soccer stadium on campus. “Together we have been and always will be #SpartanStrong”.
