3 killed, 3 critically injured after truck-vehicle crash
The California Highway Patrol is reporting that a fatal shooting occurred this morning on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond.
At 1:08 a.m. the CHP Golden Gate Division received a reports of a crash on the highway near Hilltop Drive, according to CHP officials. The Jeep overturned several times, and the driver was ejected from the vehicle, CHP said.
The male driver of the big rig and two women in the Nissan died at the scene, CHP Officer Tony Polizzi said. The freeway is estimate to reopen around 10:30 a.m.
The victim has not been identified yet and investigators have no suspect information but they believe the victim was specifically targeted.
The tractor trailer flew into the air and hit a gray Nissan, shearing the top of the Nissan off. The tractor trailer continued out of control and crashed onto a red Ford Explorer that was traveling northbound, and the tractor trailer immediately became engulfed in flames, the CHP said. Police say there have been around seven incidents, but did not comment further.
On Jan. 11, three people were injured on eastbound I-80 near Richmond Parkway.
The transition lanes from one freeway to the other were blocked after the 6:50 p.m. collision.
Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, and at least two were critically injured, KNBC reported. He has 13 years of journalism experience, most recently as a reporter for the San Francisco Examiner.
