3 men critically wounded in shooting captured on Facebook Live
Norfolk police are continuing to investigate the shooting that sent three men – two age 27 and the other age 29- to hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police in Norfolk, Virginia, confirmed the triple shooting was recorded live onto the Facebook page of a man, though they did not confirm the names of those injured.
Video uploaded by Facebook user TJ Willams showed three men sitting in a auto listening to music and smoking until gunfire is suddenly heard and the phone is dropped.
The shooting lasts for around twenty seconds as multiple rounds are fired into the vehicle, sending glass flying everywhere. After about five minutes, a string of gunshots are heard and the camera falls to the ground. He then tells all three to keep their eyes open and listen to his voice.
After the three high-profile incidents, Facebook issued a statement explaining that it would allow users to stream graphic or violent live video under certain conditions. “Stay relaxed. They coming to get y’all, hold on”, a man can be heard saying. Two have life-threatening injuries and one has non-life threatening injuries.
Last month, Antonio Perkins was livestreaming while on a Chicago street with his kids and some friends when he was shot to death.
He continues to stay with the victims until emergency responders reach the scene a few minutes later.
Bystanders and paramedics rushed to help the three victims who were all in their late 20s.
“We are aware of the video and the police are looking into it”, said Daniel Hudson, Norfolk Police Department public information officer, to the Hollywood Reporter.
No motive or suspect description has been released.
