3 officers dead, 3 hurt in Baton Rouge shooting
Three Baton Rouge law enforcement officers were killed and three others wounded Sunday, less than two weeks after a black man was shot and killed by police here in a confrontation that sparked nightly protests across the city that reverberated nationwide. Sheriff’s officials said one suspect was dead and believed two others may be at large. L’Jean McKneely, a police spokesman.
Law enforcement officials are asking the entire community to remain indoors and to avoid the area where a deadly shooting has resulted in the death of three law enforcement officers and one suspect.

At 10 a.m., McKneely said, “We’re securing the area with a deceased suspect, a suspect that has been killed”.
Chaos unfolded on Airline Highway near Old Hammond Highway around 9.a.m when witnesses on the scene reported multiple gunmen dressed in all black and wearing masks.

Alton Sterling was killed outside a Baton Rouge convenience store, an event caught on video by at least two bystanders.
The city is on high alert after three officers were shot and killed Sunday morning.
The White House says President Barack Obama has been briefed on the shooting of police officers in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and has asked to be updated throughout the day as more details become available.
It was not immediately clear why the officers were shot.
Sterling’s death came a day before another police-involved shooting death in Minnesota. Police armed with long guns on the road stopped at least two vehicles driving away from the scene and checked their trunks and vehicles before allowing them to drive away, the reporter said.
The governor rushed to the hospital where the shot officers were taken.
Rogers said an officer in the congregation hastily left the church near the end of the service, and a pastor announced that “something had happened”.
Sterling’s nephew condemned the killing of the three officers.
The latest tragic installment of this macabre saga comes just days after Baton Rouge police arrested three people over an alleged plan to harm police officers. At one such protest in Dallas, a sniper opened fire on police officers, killing five and injuring more.
Police said Sterling was shot after officers responded to an anonymous call about a black man in a red T-shirt who threatened the caller with a gun.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said, “We demand law and order”.
“It’s insane…. I understand some people feel like enough is enough with, you know, the black community being shot”, said Gardner, an African-American.
