3 years after Sandy Hook massacre
More than 500 children have died from gun violence in the United States since the Newtown shooting.
Washington DC – -(Ammoland.com)- On December 14 2015 – the 3rd anniversary of the heinous attack on Sandy Hook Elementary – President Obama used a Facebook post to try to shame Congress into passing gun controls that would not have prevented the Sandy Hook attack from happening.
“I’m sure for numerous other parents and families every day is hard”, he said. In a study conducted by MSNBC, data shows that while gun deaths along with violent crimes have been steadily declining, there’s no solid evidence kids are any safer now than they were three years ago.
“But what if we tried to stop even one?” he continued.
Obama is looking for additional ways to tighten restrictions on guns, asking his staff to examine current laws for openings where he could take executive action. And they said, ‘Why are we moving?’
As attempts to reform gun laws have repeatedly failed, the group says about 1,000 mass shootings have taken place in the U.S.
Another teacher described what it was like distracting her students when the school went into lockdown when the gunman, Adam Lanza, began firing.
In a moment of reflection, elected officials, religious leaders and community members walked with lit candles to the church’s outdoor amphitheater, where photographs of the victims of the Sandy Hook shooting, other mass shootings and the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino lined the perimeter.
Gabby Giffords was a congresswoman from Arizona when she was wounded in a mass shooting that left six dead in 2011.
A rally to end gun violence will be held outside of the National Rifle Association’s headquarters in Virginia.
“The vast majority of Americans support universal background checks, for example, a simple step we could start implementing tomorrow if Republicans would drop their worship of the NRA and their agenda and pick up the mantle of doing the right thing”, Wasserman Schultz said.
Her husband, Andy Parker, blamed the leadership of the NRA and members of Congress for prioritising the interest of the gun industry over public safety. “The gun lobby is preoccupied with the slippery slope, and this”, he said, pointing at his sign, “[looks like] a slippery slope”. “I wanted to be as transparent as possible”, Pozner says.
“All they want to do is sell guns”.
The U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms.
