30th annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration held in Abingdon, VA
He said he tries to honor Dr. King in his every day life.
People gathered for the 22nd annual Martin Luther King Parade in Dublin on Saturday.
The Museum of Boulder and the Motus Theater group have invited former Colorado Historical Society lead historian Dr. Modupe Labode to deliver a speech on the legacy of King, which will take place from 7 to 9 p.m.
Reverend Harris, who is the Amarillo Branch NAACP Chairmen for the event, is hoping for a big turn out – one that involves all races. “He fought for equal rights for all people, and so the message is still powerful today”.
Dr. King was not only the catalyst for the civil rights movement, he also served as a catalyst for a global movement that revolved around love and justice.
“Dr. King was the one who galvanized us and spoke so clearly about the issues and inspired us to move forward”, said Reverend Marchelle Hallman, chaplain of the Minnesota Department of Corrections Facility, who addressed the theme “Civil and Right: Are you living the dream?”
Although it’s a federal holiday where many people don’t have to go to work, they’re asked to honor King with a day of community service – organizers call it “a day on, not a day off”, the King Center says.
“I might have a bigger chance of showing Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to people around the world”, added Daniela Rojas, a student at St. Anthony.
However, nearly 50 years later his legacy still lives on.
MLK Symbolic March begins at 10:00 a.m. Monday morning, starting at the Warren County Justice Center (1001 Center Street), to State Street Baptist Church (340 State Street).
Fargo’s 16th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, hosted by the Fargo Human Relations Commission, will feature performances by the Buffalo River Singers, Bhutanese Dancers, Fargo-Moorhead Gay Men’s Chorus and the Fargo Human Relations Award presentations.
Once at Reid Park, the festival will continue until 1 p.m.
With the events going on around downtown Columbia, all City of Columbia parking garages will be open to the public at no charge on Monday.
