32 dogs rescued from animal hoarding situation near Russellville
It rescued dogs including five 4-week-old beagle-mix puppies and 8-week-old puppies of unknown breeds. The other dogs appear to be mixed-breed Dachshunds, Border Collies, Chihuahuas, Pit Bulls and Pointers. The dogs had been living in a waste-filled, trash-strewn double-wide trailer.
Police say there were multiple reports about the incident, animal control did respond but there were no visible injuries to the dog.
The Moniteau County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Humane Society to recommend charges be filed against the owner. It is one of the most severe cases of neglect Humane Society veterinarians have ever seen.
As a way to clear out their overcrowded kennels, the Butte Humane Society is waiving the adoption fee for all dogs over six months in age through September 30.
“What they do is move dogs from the southeast where euthanasia numbers are very high to locations in the northeast where it’s not so high”, said Mary Kennedy Withrow, the Western Pa. Humane Society’s director of government and community relations.
