38 new emoji considered by Unicode Consortium
The Unicode Consortium is the organisation which approves the animated faces, people and objects, and the next official list of approved emoji is due to be released in 2016.
Within the food category, companies like Chipotle and Oscar Mayer are probably thrilled to see that an avocado and bacon might be included for their brand tweets.
New emoji animals are also up for consideration (Pic: Emojipedia) The new emojis have been designed by graphic designer and illustrator Joshua M Jones, and they look great. Among the many different candidates on the listing are bacon, a pregnant lady, a cowboy, a clown and an individual taking a selfie.
Once a Unicode update is released, Apple, Google and Microsoft are free to design the new emoji to add to their operating systems.
Hopefully the emojis will be accepted by the Unicode consortium and will make it to your phone at some point next year *fingers crossed emoji*.
While we wait, Emojipedia has mocked up what it expects the new emoji to look like. While the racially diverse emoji in the set have been adopted, many emoji lovers around the world are still missing out on a taco, cheese wedge and unicorn, among others.
