4 members of Malaysian family killed in Bangkok bombing
Over 100 people, comprising family members, relatives and friends of Siew Gek and her husband Neoh Hock Guan, began gathering at the compound of their house since 11 pm.
A photograph taken earlier in the holiday and published in Malaysian media shows Neoh, a cake seller from the state of Penang, and his family posing happily at a restaurant in Bangkok, their table laden with Thai dishes and glasses of beer.
The ethnic Chinese family had reportedly left Penang by train on Saturday, travelling north through Thailand on a trip that was to culminate in a few days in the capital.
It was a sombre homecoming for Jian Xuan’s mother Neoh Ee Ling, who had gone to Bangkok on a holiday in a joyful mood, but returned home under tragic circumstances. But four other family members, including Ee Ling’s 4-year-old daughter, are confirmed dead, and a fifth is presumed dead.
Mr Lim said Ms Neoh had indicated the missing aunt had not survived the attack.
“We can not believe four members of our family have been killed in the bomb blast”.
She arrived at the Bangkok airport on Wednesday accompanied by her sister Neoh Huey Shinn, brother-in-law Lee Tze Dung, uncle Lee Peng Hee and Malaysian Ambassador Nazirah Hussain. “They should be punished severely”.
Yet police said they still did not know if he was Thai or foreign and, with no-one yet claiming responsibility, mystery remained over the motive behind the bombing which has no precedent in the kingdom.
He said the contributions were aimed at helping the families in funeral expenses, among others.
The sketch and comments by the police chief indicating the bomber was not a “lone wolf” assailant were the strongest leads revealed to the public so far over Monday’s attack on the Hindu shrine.
He said the grieving family had not told Ms Neoh’s elderly grandmother, 71, what had happened.
Thai police on Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for an individual they described as a GEORGE TOWN, August 20 ― The government would contribute RM10,000 to each family of the victims of Monday’s bomb blast in Bangkok, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Mah Siew Keong.
