4-star big man Sacha Killeya-Jones picks Kentucky after decommitting from Virginia
John Calipari is widely considered the best recruiter in college basketball, so the fact that his 2016 class isn’t full of top talent at this point, although it is early, is a bit of a surprise to some people.
More than a month after de-committing from Virginia, Sacha Killeya-Jones chose Kentucky as his new landing spot.
Killeya-Jones joins four-star power forward Tai Wynyard in the Wildcats’ 2016 class, though Wynyard should be on campus as early as December.
Killeya-Jones made his announcement Wednesday morning. He also had offers from Kansas, N.C. State and Wake Forest, but told ESPN playing for John Calipari influenced his decision. The 6-foot-10 forward lives in Virginia and was committed to Virginia until he withdrew that commitment in June.
“I look at what Coach Calipari has done with players like myself, and I see the way he prepares them for the next level and it’s impressive”, Killeya-Jones said. “I know I have to earn my playing time”.
The Wildcats are getting a quality big man to add depth to their front court for next season and beyond. His jump shot is not yet a consistent weapon, and his motor isn’t the greatest but Killeya-Jones is a very talented young player who shows a lot of promise.
Killeya-Jones is ranked 18th nationally in the Class of 2016, according to 247Sports.
