400 piglets killed in Tyrone farm fire
Five farm buildings were also saved but two others were destroyed.
The blaze ripped through two sheds at the pig farm on the Melmount Road in Strabane.
More than 400 piglets have died in a fire at a farm in Co Tyrone.
“When we arrived there were two outbuildings containing pigs well alight, so we immediately started to get fire fighting”, he explained. However, 33 sows and 420 piglets were killed.
He added: “We’re still on the scene so the incident is still ongoing but we’re beginning to scale down now”.
Jimmy Stafford, a DJ at Highland Radio, captured the pictures of the fire at 6.20am and posted them on his Twitter account (@staffordjimmy). A number of livestock have perished.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
