$400k grant to help homeless San Bernardino County veterans
Advocates say homelessness is a problem for returning vets who sometimes have a hard time transitioning back to civilian life.
White House officials on Tuesday outlined a range of reforms for the Veterans Affairs Department to include enhanced protections for GI Bill education benefits and a renewed push to end veterans’ homelessness.
Right now it takes an average of 81 days from contact with a homeless veteran in Austin to moving him or her into a home, down from 238 days in 2012, said Ann Howard, executive director of the Ending Community Homelessness Coalition, or ECHO.

In addition, the administration said the VA and the Federal Trade Commission have signed a new agreement to “provide enhanced oversight and strengthen enforcement against schools that engage in deceptive or misleading advertising, sales or enrollment practices towards veterans”.
