42 hurt when railing collapses at Snoop Dogg concert
Rappers Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa took the stage on Friday night in Camden, N.J. The pair was in town for their Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa: The High Road Tour.
Engineers were trying to figure out what happened at Camden’s BB&T Pavilion.
The frightening incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. while the hip hop icon and rapper Wiz Khalifa were performing onstage at the BB&T Pavilion in Camden. Authorities said a stretch of railing separating the crowd from a small temporary stage gave way when fans surged toward the stage. In footage captured by concertgoers you see Snoop and Wiz take the stage and nearly straight away the railings collapse.
One person sustained serious injuries and was in stable condition at a local hospital, according to Dan Keashen, a spokesman for Camden County. Numerous others were treated for broken bones, bruises and other injuries. Among those hurt were several fans and some employees of Live Nation, which operates the venue.
An I Love the 90’s concert featuring Salt N Pepa, Vanilla Ice and other performers is scheduled for Saturday night at the pavilion.
The railing separated fans from a sloping area that leads to a concrete walkway. Daniels said the fall was about four or five feet.
They are said to have fallen around 10 metres to the floor below, while Snoop and Wiz were ushered off stage by security staff.
Concertgoer Katie Colbridge – who was uninjured and one section away from the affected area – said that people in the crowd were moving around trying to get a better view when the “whole fence collapsed”. An announcer advised the audience to remain calm. The venue’s inspections are all up to date and it does not have any violations, Camden spokesman Vince Basara told the website.
