$487 million Powerball ticket bought at small-town grocery
Saturday night’s winning numbers were 11, 17, 21, 23, and 32 and the Powerball was 5.
The million-dollar ticket is the only one in Virginia to win Powerball’s second prize in the July 27 drawing, and one of just four nationwide. Those tickets are worth $785,000 each before taxes, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association, which conducts the game. It was the eighth largest United States lottery jackpot.
The winning ticket was sold at a Hannaford supermarket in Raymond, about 55 miles outside of Boston.
The jackpot was worth $487 million.
The odds of matching all six Powerball numbers and getting the grand prize are about 1 in 292 million.
The latest drawing came more than two months after a $429.6 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in New Jersey, and about two weeks after a $540 million Mega Millions lottery jackpot was clinched in Indiana.
A ticket purchased in New Hampshire matched the winning numbers in Saturday’s Powerball drawing.
A Powerball ticket bought July 27 in Arlington won $1 million, Virginia Lottery officials said.
