49er rookies make case for late-season playing time — Sports Night
He almost outlasted “South Park”.
The NFL’s most underrated marvel is Charles Woodson. That season he had nine interceptions and scored three touchdowns.
Reece has been the team’s lone selection the past three years.
I remember him showing great reactions playing the ball in that camp but getting off to a slow start in the regular season. They said Pyle – who was named president of the NFL Players Association in 1967 – would have hoped it will help players with their medical needs.
Not at a position in the secondary that demands you be as athletic, mobile, and fast as a player that was born a decade or more after you. The Raiders are in good hands right now, and the departure of Woodson will only allow them to get stronger.
Oakland drafted Woodson in 1998 with the fourth overall pick in the Draft. And if the offense just has to keep up that kind of play against Oakland, I want to see Woodson wreck stuff. He announced Monday that he will retire at the end of the season. Before him, linebacker Keith Brooking managed to make it until 2012. That was Charles Woodson’s introduction to an National Football League box score. The 18-year veteran has certainly had a Hall of Fame career.
Woodson led fan votes at safety at the age of 39. It his 9th career Pro Bowl nod.
That didn’t quite happen, of course, with the Raiders at 6-8 heading into their final two games of the season, starting with Thursday’s Christmas Eve matchup with the Chargers at O.co Coliseum. Which was way, way, way down.
After the Green Bay Packers beat the Oakland Raiders 30-20 on Sunday, I went to the Raiders’ locker room rather than the Packers’ to get Charles Woodson’s take on his former team. He returned to the Raiders in 2013.
Woodson’s tenure as a Raider came to a close following the 2005 season, and, even though he did not gain much attention as a free agent, he eventually reached an agreement with the Green Bay Packers.
In his final home game, can we please also let him show the receivers of today how its done? He went to Green Bay in 2006. And all that’s left for us to do is appreciate him for all he’s done for this team, for all he’s given of himself to fans, to the community, and to the organization. Woodson’s 65 career interceptions ranks fifth all-time.
This season, he’s allowed just one touchdown – and that came Week 1 while with Washington.
The Raiders will never be able to replace a player like Woodson. From day one, Woodson was refreshingly blunt and supremely confident.
And well, he’s old.
“I didn’t say anything”, Woodson said, “but it’s a seniority thing, man. It doesn’t work around here”.
A class act in a game where, as we all saw this past Sunday, could be hard to be a class act. Which is fitting isn’t it? “They love this team”.
One of the NFL’s ageless wonders announced his retirement Monday.
Woodson said that he had always wanted to intercept Manning before he called it quits.
