49ers coach Jim Tomsula fired after just one season

After serving as the 49ers’ interim head coach for one game in 2010, Tomsula took over on the sideline in relief of Jim Harbaugh prior to the start of this season.

The 49ers could use that kind of turnaround in 2016 after limping to a 5-11 finish. “I’m not at all surprised he’s succeeding at MI”. “So we have to get past that”. York said he was aware of a tweet Harbaugh posted Sunday night that could be read as a shot at the 49ers: “Do not be deceived”.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, San Francisco might be Payton’s top choice: “Worth noting: previous year, a person close to Sean Payton made it known he’d consider the SF job if he was free….”

York said he has a clear understanding of what the 49ers want for their next head coach, but the list of candidates is short. The only team with more turnover is the Raiders, who are on their ninth coach in that span. “A season like this ages you”.

“I think you’ve seen me take a step back from Twitter and from other social media”.

“For me, that’s not a date I’m concerned with”, Kaepernick said. “You have to learn from mistakes, you have to learn from failures, and we didn’t get this one right”, he said.

Regarding Harbaugh, York’s view on how they parted may be a little different than what was portrayed at the end of last season.

Indeed York, 35, sounded more clear, compelling and concise in explaining his rationale for firing Tomsula than he did a year ago in announcing Tomsula’s hiring.

The third option feels like perhaps reading a little too deeply into things, and maybe, just maybe Harbaugh is only passing convenient life lessons.

York said he has been leaning heavily on his uncle Eddie DeBartolo, the Niners’ former owner who ran the team when it won five Super Bowl titles but had to give the franchise up due to his involvement in a Louisiana gambling scandal, to get through these dark days.
