49ers fire coach Jim Tomsula
Jim Tomsula kept the focus on his players until the very end, just as he has strived to do all season long.
“I’m not going to discuss anything that’s out of my control”, said Caldwell, 18-14 in two seasons with the Lions.
When the 49ers parted ways with Harbaugh, York said on December 29, 2014, that the organization needed to get back to winning Super Bowl titles – something it fell just short of after the 2012 season in a three-point loss to Baltimore. “I’m not going to make this about Jim and about Jim’s job status”. Sean Payton, now the New Orleans Saints’ head coach, Cincinnati offensive coordinator Hue Jackson and former Philadelphia coach Chip Kelly are the three names most-associated with the 49ers’ vacancy through the first day of the vacancy.
Hayne is heading back to Australia on holiday, but whether or not he’ll be returning to the west coast of the United States later this year is anyone’s guess.
“Jim Harbaugh’s a good football coach”, York said.
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York found a clear spot amidst the falling Santa Clara ash to address the media Monday, and took the opportunity to swear he won’t tweet so much anymore, honest. “And now we’re going to have that taste in our mouth the rest of the (year)”.
On the bench for most of the game against St Louis Rams, Jarryd Hayne did come on late as a special teams player and made an important intervention.
He was promoted in November in place of Colin Kaepernick, who wound up injured and needing surgery on his non-throwing shoulder.
“We’re willing to spend what it takes to get everything right to get back to a championship culture”. Unlike the awful 2004 season, this 49ers team does have some budding talent – a nice mix of younger veterans and up-and-coming contributors. The injury does not need surgery, said coach Jeff Fisher, who provided more details on the injury after Sunday’s contest.
“I think it would be unfortunate if this was his last game”, said safety Eric Reid before the firing announcement. “We want somebody who has a clear, strategic vision”. I think I understand what fans want. Before this, multiple reports indicated that the Niners are set to sack the coach but plan on retaining general manager Trent Baalke.
He was ecstatic he had completed a dream of joining the 49ers and against the odds playing in eight games.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t see this team improve collectively”, York said, adding that the ultimate responsibility for the success of the team, and how many Super Bowls are won, are his as owner. Asked about whispers that his family might be gearing up to sell the 49ers, York said: “My family’s owned this team since before I was born, and they’ll own this team after I’m gone”.
Jed says he knows the fans want a championship team. “It’s always been a good time with him”.
On Sunday night, after Tomsula’s firing, Harbaugh tweeted that “you will reap what you sow,” apparently in reference to the 49ers. “I’m going to continue to do that, but I’m going to do that in a way that doesn’t distract from the team”.
