49ers hire Chip Kelly as new coach
Chip Kelly’s unemployment didn’t last long… the ex-Eagles coach just got hired by the San Francisco 49ers!
The 49ers hired the former Eagles coach on Thursday, finding the leader CEO Jed York is counting on to turn things around for his once-proud franchise.
Kelly, 52, will be coming from the opposite coast, where he’s been the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles for the last three season.
Kelly is a fantastic hire for the head coach.
The 49ers have come under fire from fans who were upset the team parted ways with coach Jim Harbaugh after 2014 and replaced him with player favorite Jim Tomsula. Whether Kelly was their first choice or – as some reports have said – they turned to Kelly after they couldn’t get Hue Jackson (who went to the Browns), it’s a drastic change from Jim Tomsula, that’s for sure. That’s because we play three more games than other teams. “I felt like the 49er hierarchy left me”, he said. The 49ers don’t plan on a press conference until mid week next week as Kelly builds his new staff, a team spokesman said. This team, just needs, if Chip Kelly can get Kaepernick back to the way he was, (Arik) Armstead looked really good. Kaepernick is owed $12 million if the team keeps him, but with the hiring of Kelly, who’s proven adept at getting the most out of mobile quarterbacks, it may be a sign that San Francisco is not quitting on the QB.
Even more so if Kelly was infatuated with a quarterback on the roster.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported 49ers general manager Trent Baalke had a sit-down meeting with Kaepernick near the end of the season that could “prove incredibly valuable” as they look to 2016.
“Some have suggested he may not be ready, and as I said last week, we want a coach who feels like he has something to prove”. While 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was benched in 2015, he seems like the type of mobile quarterback that’s the right fit to run Kelly’s ideal offense. “The feeling with the 49ers’ organization is that Chip Kelly wanted the power with the Eagles because he didn’t think that anybody else was capable of running the personnel side”. McAdoo’s offense has been one of the few bright spots for the team the past two years.
