49ers to stick with Blaine Gabbert at quarterback

Gabbert threw two touchdown passes in the first half on Sunday, and the 49ers’ defense held on for a 17-16 victory over the Atlanta Falcons at Levi’s Stadium.

Less than a week after the 49ers benched Kaepernick for Blaine Gabbert, a report says it is “virtually certain” Kaepernick will be cut following the season. Dan Quinn would be better off just admitting that he panicked and made a huge mistake.

Jason La Canfora of CBS reported on Sunday that trust between the organization and Kaepernick has eroded to the point that anything short of Gabbert getting injured and Kaepernick leading the 49ers to a playoff birth will result in Kaepernick’s dismissal at season’s end. Supposedly, a 49ers defender recently glared at the team’s sideline when the defense had forced a three-and-out and then bellowed, “See how it’s done offense!”

Tight end Garrett Celek caught two touchdown passes for the 49ers (3-6), and running back Shaun Draughn carried 16 times for 58 yards. Jones has 80 catches for 1,029 yards and six scores for the season. “So congratulations to him”. “But he’s been a great teammate, and his support and the way he’s been handling this whole thing has been very professional, and we really appreciate it”. Doubt has to be fully settled into the locker room at this point.

Gabbert used his legs to his advantage, avoiding sacks and negative plays by running when it was advantageous, and not just running for his life as Kaepernick was doing.

Tomsula seems to know what he wants to do with the quarterback position going forward, and he simply isn’t ready to go public with it, more out of respect to the players than any gamesmanship aspect with the Seahawks.
