5 bodies found in California plane wreckage
Five people have been found dead in a wreckage in an almond orchard in central California a day after a small aircraft disappeared from radar.
The FAA official added that the plane was flying from Reid-Hillview Airport in San Jose and was headed to the Henderson Executive Airport in Nevada.
The identities of the crash victims were not released on Sunday. They’re believed to be from the Bay area.
The FAA issued an alert notice, which is the first step in initiating the search-and-rescue process. He said the debris field stretched about a quarter of a mile, according to USA Today. “It’s going to affect a smaller community, I’m told, (far) north of Bakersfield”. A woman who answered a number listed for that address would only say that her husband used to be part owner of the plane but sold his share. FAA records show the registered owner to be Rad Aviation LLC out of San Jose. The debris from the aircraft were located three hours after the mayday call was received by the sheriff’s office at about 4:30 p.m.
The Federal Aviation Administration was looking for what caused the crash that killed five people, Kern County sheriff’s Sgt. Mark King said.
The NTSB is in charge of the investigation. If precedence of similar cases is to be taken into account, it will take agencies months and if not longer to identify the possible causes for the plane crash.
It’s not clear if weather played a part in the crash.
