5 facts about Vincente Montano, man in Tenn. movie theater attack
The man who was killed Wednesday by Nashville police after he allegedly went after moviegoers with a hatchet and pepper spray had been committed to a mental institution four times, police spokesman Don Aaron told reporters.
Aaron stated a fingerprint taken on the theater Wednesday matched that from Montano’s arrest.
According to Aaron, Montano had “significant psychiatric or psychological issues”. He also had a prior criminal record – in 2004, he was arrested on an assault charge in Murfreesboro, Tennssee. “That’s when the officer fired his weapon at the suspect in that initial confrontation”.
A former Tampa police captain fatally shoots a man during an argument over texting in a movie theater in Land O’Lakes, Florida. The officer shot back, then backed off. After that, a SWAT team came in, and there was another exchange of gunfire.
Both shootings are reminiscent of the 2012 “Batman” massacre, when gunman James Holmes opened fire during a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado, killing 12 and harming 70 more.
The spray was possibly released by the assailant, the spokesman added.
The man who was cut in the arm with the ax, who only identified himself as Steven, said he had no idea why Montano attacked his family. The video doesn’t show the shooting.
A SWAT team responded to the scene, according to scanner traffic. I would like to personally thank Chief Steve Anderson and the men and women who just put risked their lives to keep Nashville citizens safe. “That kind of gives me a little bit more faith in humanity again”.
The victim says he has “no idea why this gentleman decided to attack us”.
His backpack was detonated by the bomb squad just before 4 p.m.as authorities were not comfortable opening it. The suspect also had a smaller satchel with him.
The gun he was carrying looked like a real firearm but was an airsoft pistol, police said on Twitter. None were transported to a hospital.
The entire event Wednesday lasted less than an hour. Dozens of police officers flooded the scene of the shooting and blocked traffic in the area. One of them entered the theater and encountered the gunman, who fired at the officer.
After the initial shooting, Houser exited the cinema through a side door and moved toward his 1995 Lincoln, but he saw a police auto in the parking lot.
He described it as “utter chaos”. He stated investigators have been going by means of a second backpack that the Montano left on the theater.
Mattie Sanchez works on the Dash retailer close to the theater.
