5 fires burning in Yellowstone continue to grow
30, 2016, shows a wildfire, which began by lightning last Friday, burns in central Yellowstone National Park in northwest Wyoming. It is visible from the West Entrance Road and 7 Mile Bridge, although the road has not been closed at this time.
In Yellowstone, five fires are burning, but all major roads, entrances and tourist attractions are open.
The Buffalo Fire, also burning in the park, is now at 4,008 acres, with an increase of approximately 430 acres.
Today firefighters doused hot spots and cleared downed and risky burned trees along the highway.
Firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the blaze, allowing the road to be reopened, according to the Fire Incident Information System website.
Miranda said motorists were urged to drive with caution because firefighters were still using the road and the fire might burn back over the highway.
The Flagg Ranch guest lodge and cabin operation located along the highway remains closed while crews work to restore power lines.
Now the fire is located about 4 miles northeast of West Yellowstone and less than two miles from the Madison Junction.
A large Chinook helicopter and a smaller type-2 helicopter were used to drop water long with two Fire Bosses.
Since it was started by lightning on August 8, it has been allowed to burn.
