$500000 check dropped in Salvation Army kettle in Minnesota
On Nov. 25, someone dropped a gold coin wrapped in a $100 bill into the charity’s kettle outside the Kroger on Bechtle Avenue, Springfield Salvation Army Resource Development Coordinator Ryan Ray said.

Spokeswoman Annette Bauer says it’s the biggest check ever in the Minneapolis area and likely the biggest ever in the two states. Early in their marriage, they said they relied on discarded grocery store food.
One of their fathers served in World War I, and as they say, he was always appreciative of the baked treats supplied by the Salvation Army “donut lassies”.
We’ve all passed by – and, more often than not, passed on – the infamous red Salvation Army kettles that make an appearance during the holiday season.
The Salvation Army is also taking donations for its “Angel Trees” program, which will donate toys to 2,000 Clark County children as gifts. Now that their situation in life has improved, they wanted to help others who struggle like them before.
A statement was released by the charity which said the couple hope their donation encourages others.
The Salvation Army has set a goal of raising $11.6 million during the Christmas campaign this year, and to date they have raised about $2.2 million, the Salvation Army said.
