Not long after that, flames could be seen coming from it. The tragic accident occurred near Gorman, 65 miles north of downtown Los Angeles.

The California Highway Patrol says officers had to hold back two hysterical fathers as their wives and children died in a fiery minivan wreck on a highway in north Los Angeles County.
Two women and four children, all Bay Area residents, were killed in a fiery crash Tuesday morning in Southern California on Interstate 5, after the minivan they were in was struck by a big rig, according to the California Highway Patrol. “Unfortunately, we weren’t able to do so due to the van catching fire quickly”. Their wives and both their two children were killed.
Paramedics pronounced the mothers of four children dead at the scene.
According to Romero, the sliding door on the driver’s side got jammed when the minivan was rear-ended by the semi.
The truck driver and two CHP officers also scrambled to help save the victims.
GORMAN, CA (Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 10:15 a.m.)-At 10:11 a.m., traffic was still backed up to the summit from Gorman, according to CHP. The survivors were the fathers for each family, CHP Officer Monica Posada told The Times.
Romero said that the impact when the semi-truck slammed into the back of the minivan possibly resulted in the deaths of some of the passengers before the fire erupted.
‘Words can’t describe it, ‘ said CHP Officer Dan Williams, who held the fathers back with his partner. “It was very horrific seeing them try to get their families out, us trying to help get their families out”.
His partner, Jeff Burdick, said it was hard to pull Li and Ng away from the fire. Due to the severity of the fire, however, they were unable to save the victims, CHP officials said. “That’s all we could do”.
