6 people died in crashes during the Thanksgiving weekend
In 221 crashes recorded on state or federal highways and interstates, 73 people were hurt and four people died.
RICHMOND – Six individuals lost their lives in traffic crashes on Virginia’s highways over the 2015 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, according to preliminary reports. An additional 48 DUI arrests were made which is a 7-percent increase over the 45 DUI arrests made previous year.
There were nine deaths on Missouri roadways over the Thanksgiving holiday counting period-from 6 pm Wednesday November 25 to 11:59 pm on Sunday November 29. In addition, troopers arrested 92 people for driving while impaired during the Thanksgiving counting period in 2014.
Statewide there have been 618 DUI arrests and 14 deaths. There was sharp increase in both the total number of accidents and injuries compared to 2014. There were at least four deaths on roads patrolled by the MHP.
And Vincenzo A. Keith, 16, also of Nixa, died early Monday from injuries he suffered in a crash in Dallas County Sunday.
Funds generated from summonses issued by Virginia State Police go directly to court fees and the state’s Literary Fund, which benefits public school construction, technology funding and teacher retirement.
