7 injured following plane fire at Florida airport
The Dynamic Airways plane was leaving Fort Lauderdale, attempting to make its way to Venezuela, when reports claim the pilot noted fuel leaking from the Dynamic worldwide Airways Flight 405.
Firefighters have put out a plane fire at Fort Lauderdale global Airport.
The U.S. agency also said the plane had experienced a fuel leak before takeoff.
Dynamic Airlines operates a fleet of Boeing 767-200s and 767-300s, which are fitted with engines made by General Electric, Pratt & Whitney or Rolls-Royce.
Images broadcast by WSVN-TV showed the Boeing 767 drenched in fire-retardant foam on the runway.
Last month, fire broke out on a British Airways flight leaving Las Vegas, but it was quickly extinguished.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said several injuries were reported.
It is unknown how many passengers were on board or how serious the injuries may be. According to Dynamic, it offers “service from airports in New York, Guyana, Florida, Venezuela, Hong Kong, [and] Palau”.
Two calls to Dynamic global Airways’ headquarters in Greensboro, North Carolina, were both met with “no comment” on the fire.
“While there’s no reason to believe weather caused the fire, the conditions were uncomfortable and even potentially unsafe for those who fought it”, said senior meteorologist Nick Wiltgen.
