7-Year-Old Girl Drowns In Ocean City
Ocean City police are investigating the apparent drowning of a 7-year-old girl who was knocked down by a wave and disappeared under the surf. The girl was overcome by the wave and pulled in to the inlet waters.
The child was then taken to Atlantic General Hospital, where she later died.
The girl’s family called 911 and emergency rescue swimmers from the Ocean City Beach Patrol and fire department responded within five minutes, according to Ocean City Spokeswoman Jessica Waters.
The girl’s name has not yet been identified.
Around 7:05 p.m. Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police located the body of the girl a quarter-mile off shore Waters says.
Waters said the official cause of death was not yet known as of Sunday morning, and officials are still waiting for that information to come back.
Waters says the water was tough on Saturday, and she or he urged individuals to not swim until lifeguards are current.
“The most important thing people need to know is that the ocean is unpredictable”.
The girl is from Willards, Md.in Wicomico County.
