’70s Rockers Lead 2016 Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Class
Compton rap group N.W.A. and classic rock band Chicago are among the list of acts to be honored at the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony in April.
Now, their resurgent run is set to continue, as they’re headed to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The larger-than-life West Coast hip-hop group was likely boosted in their bid by this year’s blockbuster Straight Outta Compton, the hit biopic which told the story of the group and its music. Members of the general public are allowed to combine for one vote each year – a process that takes place online beginning a few years ago.
During Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee season, the Midwest often gets overlooked. “I think Snoop might do an honorary Eazy”.
“It’s hard to sum up exactly what it means”, Cube says. It means a lot of things. However, fan voting was not enough to sway voters toward the prog-rock band Yes, which was second with 26.1 million votes (16.2 percent), followed by the Cars, who were also shut out despite collecting 26 million votes (16.1 percent). Though not a rock act per se, her influence on contemporary music arguably supersedes that of Steve Miller or Deep Purple-and both her brother Michael Jackson and fellow ’80s icon Madonna have been inducted. It is presently unclear if the rap groups two other surviving members, MC Ren and DJ Yella will be attending the induction ceremony alongside Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, or if other rappers will perform with the group on stage. It will air on HBO in the spring. “It’s just exciting that the group as a whole gets recognised by the whole industry as Hall of Fame-worthy”.
Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen admits he is pleased the news is finally out because he hated keeping it a secret, telling Rolling Stone, “Usually I’m a man of many words, but this has got me in a tizzy here”. “If we’re doing something and it’s feeling kind of corny, I won’t want to do it…They don’t want to see some forced medley”.
