76ers center Joel Embiid to miss season after foot surgery
However, Embiid is expected to miss the entire next season, reports ESPN.
To think that Embiid’s health issue entering the 2014 draft was a back injury–a lumbar stress fracture called as spondylolysis-suffered four months earlier, automatically evokes memories of Portland Trail Blazers’ No. 1 pick in 2007, Greg Oden.
Embiid will miss his second straight season after having a second operation on his foot, which included a bone graft to help it heal and the replacement of two screws.
Embiid first injured the foot during his one and only season at Kansas in 2013-14.
Philadelphia 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie has insisted that the organisation remains optimistic about the future of Joel Embiid.
“Everyone involved – our organization, Joel, and his agent Darren Matsubara of Wasserman Media Group – worked diligently to assemble this highly sought after group of professionals”, Hinkie said.
Hinkie said they wanted to provide the best possible care for Embiid to enable him to have long and successful stint in the National Basketball Association . Nobody has talked me off of that just yet.
“[The bone] has been put in a great position to support full recovery”, wrote Dr. Martin O’Malley, the surgeon guy. Not only is he expected to play well and lift the team, but he’s also going to be relied upon to be so good that fans forget about the waste of space that Embiid has been so far.
