76ers give new deal to Brett Brown
The Philadelphia 76ers are a complete dumpster fire in the 2015-16 National Basketball Association season. And his bosses were wise enough to realize he deserved a chance at coaching a roster that is capable of competing.
Brett Brown has agreed to a two-year extension with the Philadelphia 76ers, the team announced. Brown’s contract was originally though 2016-17. Both sides got together again on Sunday before the Sixers’ Family Day. However, he’s not being judged at this point on wins and losses.
Actually, it’s not just the 2015-16 season, but rather a self-inflicted trend for the Sixers over the past few seasons thanks to the infamous “Process” brought about by general manager Sam Hinkie. In the process, they hope to lose enough games to secure a top pick in the National Basketball Association draft in June.
Brown will be able to see the rebuilding effort through. “We started something extremely hard, but it’s going to end up extremely special”.
And because of that, his 38-149 record is hardly a reflection of his abilities as a coach or leader. He said that’s part of the excitement to accept the extension. To have lived and breathed what we’ve all been through…to have experienced that time frame and see the growth we’ve made, take the hits we’ve taken, how could I not want to see this through. He left after that season to become the head coach of the Sydney Kings of the Australian National Basketball League but rejoined the Spurs in 2002 as the team’s assistant coach/director of player development and was moved to the bench as an assistant under Gregg Popovich in 2006. “I mean, how can you not?”
