76ers rookie Okafor gets security guard
The moral of the story?
Let’s be clear: The 0-18 Sixers have given outsiders plenty of ammunition. They’re riding an epically long 28-game losing streak, the worst in American pro sports history.
Brown said he’s shouldered the load, in regard to educating his players on mature and responsible off-court behavior.
There were many stretches in the third quarter where the crowd was eerily quiet – probably because they were surprised that the Celtics were trailing against a winless team.
This isn’t the first piece of troubling news to hit headlines this weekend alone for the 19-year-old as the Philidelphia Inquirer also reported Sunday morning that Okafor was pulled over for hitting 108 miles per hour going over a bridge whose posted speed limit is 45 miles per hour.
So now, whenever the Sixers rookie goes anywhere, he’ll be accompanied by a security guard, according to a report Monday by ESPN.
As an organization, the Sixers have been frequently criticized (sometimes unfairly) for the human element, their handling of personalities. After this season, he only has one more guaranteed year before he can become a restricted free agent.
Brown, the Sixers’ primary mouthpiece, isn’t in a position to answer those queries. Hinkie would still need to acquire and waive some corpses to keep the salary total high, but a roster with six top-tier recent draft picks, four of them rookies, would be highly intriguing.
Philly hasn’t exactly had the start to the season that they had hoped obviously, but some players have played pretty well, and Covington is one of them. It’s becoming a norm to see players come in the league at a early age and see them struggle with off the court issues, because of friends or personal decisions. The “two-way player” concept is also one you’d likely hear Brown invoke, if given the chance to eavesdrop on a couple of his media availabilities. He was exclusively enjoying his time in Philadelphia as the team’s new prized possession.
With a group this green, turnovers are inevitable. His 3.6 steals per game leads the National Basketball Association, and he tops the Sixers with an average of 4.4 points scored off turnovers per game. So are shot-clock violations. They may be too pricey to put together, but they both definitely deserve a look.
Despite all that, progress has been made.

Another resource to the 19-year-old Okafor is “only a phone call away”.
Every rebuild is different. Joel Embiid and Dario Saric could be available by next season’s opener.
On draft night the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Towns with the first pick as he was an athletic big who had loads of potential.
