76ers take Duke’s Okafor with 3rd pick in NBA draft
Should they try to play lineups with these three guys in it for stretches in the season (assuming Embiid is healthy)? Joel Embiid, who miss all of last season with a foot injury, recently suffered a setback in his recovery but is still expected to take the court at some point in the 2015-16 season. Jahlil Okafor was the best prospect left on the board at No. 3, but the 76ers already have big men Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid on the roster.
The most interesting scenarios that have come up involve scenarios in which the Sixers acquire the Knicks fourth pick in addition to the third pick. The skill, you never know what you’re going to get every night.
Moving forward, all we can do is wish Okafor, Russell, and the rest of the 2015 National Basteball Association Draft class the best of luck in their future careers and let the red carpet unfold for what’s next in store.
“I’d like to think we’d have had the courage to do it anyway”, Hinkie said.
“[Embiid] feels really good”, Hinkie said.
“There are some things that can work with these pairings”, Hinkie said.
Why they take him: The Lakers are trying to not overthink this. They also have Croatian forward Dario Saric, a 2014 pick, playing overseas playing for the Turkish team Anadolu Efes. Global prospects Luka Mitrovic and Arturas Gudaitis will be stashed overseas.
Jahlil Okafor and Frank Kaminsky weren’t among them.
Wearing a suit a high first-round pick can certainly afford and flanked by friends and family, Okafor steadfastly accepted the responsibility and attention that comes with being drafted where he was and having the hype that he has.
I completely understand the thinking behind the Okafor pick, even though as a fan it may be a little underwhelming on the surface.
So long as the Lakers aren’t dumb enough to trade away the recently drafted D’Angelo Russell, they actually avoided a huge mess disguised as Jahlil Okafor.
In the conference, the 19-year-old also mentioned centers Tim Duncan and Hakeem Olajuwon to whom he patterned his game.
Minnesota has the No. 1 overall pick and the Los Angeles Lakers pick second.
Ohio State’s Russell without hesitation says he should be the first player taken Thursday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. “They don’t come along in a way where you’re looking to feed them over and over and over”. He assaults rapidly and he can pass well out of double teams. In all honesty, I see either Okafor or Noel eventually taking on a Taj Gibson sixth man role over time with the team. “You can do it without one, but we’ve had great success with dominant centers”.
