8-foot king cobra on loose in Florida; school takes precautions
– Florida Fish and Wildlife officers are searching for a large King Cobra that is missing from an Orlando-area home. According to National Geographic, one bite contains enough venom to kill 20 people.
Reptile experts, meanwhile, urged local residents not to panic.
“All hands are on deck as we continue to search this morning for an escaped king cobra in the Orlando area”.
Still, snake bites are rare in the United States, and deaths are even rarer, generally fewer than five Americans die from snake attacks annually.
“We may never see him again”, Van Horn said.
According to Captain Chris Roszkowiak of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the deadly cobra escaped accidentally, through the bars of its enclosure.
Mike Kennedy, a wildlife sanctuary operator, with a 8-foot long king cobra.
Nervous neighbours, already unhappy to be living in close proximity to the poisonous snake, were even more upset to hear it was on the loose. Kennedy, who is licensed to keep exotic animals, reported the snake missing yesterday, though it escaped sometime Tuesday, WESH reports. He said wildlife officials have their work cut out for them. Mike Kennedy, who has experience in dealing with exotic animals, stars in the Discovery Channel show called “Airplane Repo“.
“(I’m) going to wait here until this blows over, and eventually he’s going to get hungry and he’s going to need a drink of water and he’s going to start going out”.
Search teams have been putting up posters in the local area to alert the public that they are looking for the snake. “I would prefer they move it to a zoo, yea”.
King cobras are not native to Florida. The King cobra will become extremely risky if it feels cornered or threatened by humans. The snake is green and white and is probably hunting for other snakes, lizards or small animals.
