8 killed in Mumbai restaurant cylinder blast
At least eight people were reportedly killed in a suspected cylinder explosion at a hotel in Mumbai’s Kurla area on Friday.
In the city, there are 5,906 grade I, II and III restaurants and eateries.
The BMC has directed a panel comprising three officers in every ward, including a fire officer and a health officer, to conduct the inspection. “The squad will be set up in all 24 wards of Mumbai and survey will begin from Monday”.
Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta has also asked the Assistant Commissioner of Kurla ward to lodge an FIR against the hotel owner, who is absconding at present. The bodies were sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem examination, they said. “After the Kenilworth Mall fire incident, we have started taking action against the illegal adjustment in the malls”.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said he has sought a review of such establishments and procedures that govern them as a preventive course of action.
