800-pound man says hospital kicked him out for ordering pizza
A almost 800-pound man is back in the hospital after being briefly kicked out for ordering a pizza.
Steven Assanti admitted himself to a hospital in Cranston, Rhode Island almost three months ago for treatment of his eating addiction.
SCARED: Steven Assanti is not sure of the future “It’s an addiction and I realise that”.
So for the past 80 days, Assanti has been getting help at Rhode Island Hospital, and he even lost 20 pounds.
But after Assanti violated his care plan by ordering pizza, he said the hospital told him he could no longer stay.
Doctors had hoped to drop Assanti’s weight to 550 pounds, at which point be an ideal candidate for gastric bypass surgery. “That was their plan”, he told WJAR-TV. He is now staying in the trunk of his father’s SUV. “And it’s a disease” he said.
Assanti’s father Steven Veillette said taking his son home will be death sentence. “I called everybody, everybody you can think of in the state of Rhode Island and nobody seems to be [able to] help me”.
He says he can not afford to put Assanti in a hotel and that they’re considering an apartment complex in North Attleboro.
