Authorities say the crash of a 10-seater small business jet into an apartment building in northeast OH has killed those aboard but they don’t know how many people that was.
Investigators on Wednesday will attempt to determine why the jet whose owner said was carrying nine people crashed into the Akron apartment building. The two pilots were among the fatalities.
The plane, according to FlightAware.com records, originated in Fort Lauderdale on Monday, leaving about 7 a.m. and flying to St. Paul, Minn., then to the Quad City global Airport in Moline, Ill., then on to Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Missouri before finishing the day about 7:50 p.m.at Cincinnati Municipal Airport.
There was no distress call, and the plane changed radio frequencies from the Akron-Canton approach control center to Akron Fulton airport’s traffic frequency, which is not monitored by a control tower.
As the investigation and cleanup continues at the site of a deadly plane crash in Akron, family members of those believed to be aboard the flight are coming to the crash scene. NTSB vice chairman Bella Dinh-Zarr didn’t elaborate on what pilots might have said just before the crash.
The NTSB says investigators at it’s lab in Washington have completed an initial download from the planes cockpit voice recorder. Recovery of the aircraft should start today, she said. The two engines have been sent to the manufacturer.
The NTSB will hold another news conference today.
Summit County Medical Examiner Dr. Lisa Kohler says authorities haven’t confirmed how many people were on the 10-seat Hawker H25 jet when it crashed in Akron and exploded Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators have yet to officially release the names of the victims, but Cleveland 19 has also learned about executive Thomas Virgin, who recently had a baby girl.
Carrie Willis lives several blocks away. He heard the crash. She had just awoken from a nap and was going to go and get her son from school. Chavez was the father of a five-year-old son.
“That was just bad”, she said.
The front of the two-story apartment building was destroyed.
“I thought it hit the back of the building”, Eric Morris said. He programmed into his flight simulator the nearly identical conditions the pilots flew on Tuesday.
