The ceremony included tributes to the late David Bowie before his friend Gary Oldman accepted his icon award.

They went on to win best British group – making them the most successful band in the ceremony’s history.
Bay was later named British male solo artist and thanked his record labels and family, adding at the end of his speech: “Thank you so much, this is insane”.
But it failed to follow in the footsteps of Someone Like You, which soared from number 46 in the charts to number one after she sang it at the Brits in 2011. “You look through the nominations and there is not one…British black person nominated”. Laura Mvula, a soul music singer, announced it would not attend the ceremony because of “the problem of diversity”.
