9-year-old Chicago boy ‘lured’ into alley and shot
Authorities said it may have been in retaliation for his father’s alleged role in two gang-related killings.
Citing sources, CBS 2 Mai Martinez reported earlier this week that Tyshawn Lee was targeted, possibly because of gang ties to family members. “We believe he was targeted and lured to the spot where he was shot and killed”. McCarthy said police are investigating any possible ties between Lee’s father, Pierre Stokes, and a gang that may be in conflict with another gang.
But Stokes says he’s answered every question police asked him.
Tyshawn was shot in the head and back Monday in Auburn Gresham the 8000 block of South Damen at 4:15 p.m., according to Chicago Police and Chicago Fire Media.
Chicago police say a person of interest has turned himself or herself in for questioning in the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old boy on the city’s South Side. “He was not a bystander”, McCarthy said.
Police Supt. Garry McCarthy called the shooting the most “abhorrent’ crime in his 35 years of police work”.
McCarthy said police know which gangs were involved but police need a bit more information to make an arrest. “They have to have people come forward in leadership positions”, Adam said.
Sabina said Tuesday afternoon that the church and other community groups have now raised $20,000.
Anti-violence activist the Rev. Michael Pfleger and St. Sabina members handed out reward fliers Tuesday.
At Thursday’s news conference, a local reverend said he would help anyone with information that leads to the arrest of Tyshawn’s killer relocate to a different city. “A baby was executed”, Pfleger said.
