9-Year-Old ‘The Room’ Star Charms Audience At Critic’s Choice Awards
She had the honor of accepting the Best Acting Ensemble award for Spotlight at the ceremony. But were they a harbinger of the Academy Awards that will occur on February 28th.
In the supporting actor category, 69-year old Sylvester Stallone picked up the gong as Rocky Balboa in “Creed”. He immediately thanked director Ryan Coogler and co-star Michael B Jordan.
Awards season continued with gusto, as Oscar hopefuls walked the red – ahem, blue – carpet. In the documentary category, Indo-British helmer Asif Kapadia’s Amy, a chronicle of singer Amy Winehouse’s short life, emerged victor. Just last week he posted pictures of himself with a number of huge Hollywood stars at the Golden Globes before having a lightsaber battle with Star Wars actor Oscar Isaac at the after party.
For TV drama, “The Leftovers” powerhouse Carrie Coon took best actress and “Robot” star Rami Malek received best actor. Constance Zimmer won supporting actress in a drama for “UnReal”.
Brie Larson won Best Actress for her role in Lenny Abrahamson’s drama “Room”. Other nominees who got awards included actress Alicia Vikander and Adam McKay as well as Charles Randolph.
Jeffrey Tambor, who plays a transgender father in Transparent, was named best actor in a comedy series and instructed the audience: “Change the world, it needs it”.
Andre Braugher won for supporting actor for “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”, while Mayim Bialik won supporting actress for “The Big Bang Theory”.
Best Guest Actor/Actress in a Comedy Series: Timothy Olyphant, “The Grinder”.
Fury Road was the biggest victor of the night taking home 9 awards for Best Costume Design, Best Action Movie and Best Actor & Actress in a movie role, which went to Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron respectively.
Best Actor in a Movie Made for Television: Idris Elba, “Luther”. The awards were put on by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and Broadcast Television Journalists Association, and shown live as they were broadcast from Santa Monica, California.
