92-year-old woman kicked out of church for not tithing
He says King was sick for several months and was not physically able to attend services.
WALB reports that Josephine King who has been a member of Bainbridge’s First African Baptist Church for over 50 years was the first person to be expelled from the congregation for not paying her tithe.
The letter, which was signed by FABC Senior Pastor Derrick Mike, claimed that King “has shown non-support” to the ministry in the areas of “constant and consistent financial and physical participation”. “It’s about God. You have to put God first”, Simmons disclosed. She was disappointed. She was shocked’.
Josephine King’s nephew, Gerald Simmons, presented a letter to CNN affiliate WALB that his aunt received, which stated King had shown “non-support” in her financial and participatory obligations to the church.
“You shouldn’t chase the individuals down”, said Simmons.
Public reaction to King’s story has been swift.
The church has not posted on its Facebook page in more than two years.
And the reason may make you scratch your head.
“Do you remember what Jesus did in the temple to the money hungry tax collectors?” one reviewer wrote.
Another admonished Mike, concluding that he “should be visiting this elderly lady, not condemning her”.
Different churches employ different approaches to tithing nowadays, a custom that dates back to the Old Testament in the Bible when people offered God a part of their livelihood or income to give Him thanks. Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
