“I would dismantle him” – McGregor on Mayweather
The UFC’s worst nightmare for the upcoming UFC 189 event has come true as teatherweight champion Jose Aldo has been forced to pull out of the highly anticipated title fight with Conor McGregor due to a rib injury.
“I’ve said it before, I don’t think boxing is the style of fighting that can beat Floyd but saying that there are many, many forms of fighting that can beat him“.
MMAFighting.com reported that the UFC featherweight champion released a statement on his injury….
At that time, UFC President Dana White decided that Mendes will fill in for Aldo should doctors rule him out of the match.
Aldo also commented on the criticism he has faced in regards to the frequency with which he pulls out of fights, arguing that he has defended his title an average of twice a year.
It’s a big move for the UFC, and the announcement yesterday that Dublin will host another Fight Night in October, as I previously predicted, is brilliant news for us out here.
The mother-of-four will sing her rendition of the traditional song, which is McGregor’s normal walkout song.
Jose Aldo InstagramJose Aldo training for his title fight against McGregor. The Brazilian will be replaced by American fighter Chad Mendes, who’s record is 17-2 – with both those defeats coming to Aldo. But if he does, that’s on him and I can not force another individual to step in there.
My decision was made in respect to the UFC and the fans that today see me as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Mendes, a two-time NCAA All-American at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, has exactly the type of credentials that of McGregor’s previous foes have been lacking. Can McGregor stop Mendes’ wrestling takedowns?
And Team Alpha Male has rallied for Mendes to help him get ready, and hopefully add a second UFC Championship belt to T.J.
Swedish featherweight Niklas Backstrom was about to leave for the airport to head to Jordan to face McGregor when he “fell” and broke his hand. So if he wants to come back with his tail between his legs, that’s no problem. I don’t need any extra motivation.
“I live a healthy lifestyle all the time; I stay in pretty decent shape year-round, so for me, when I got the call, it was a no-brainer”, admitted Mendes, who was a standout wrestler at Cal Poly before making the transition to mixed martial arts.
