NFL star has finger amputated after a fireworks injury
It’s been a few days since Jason Pierre-Paul injured his hand in a fireworks accident, but the New York Giants still don’t know the severity of the defensive ends’ hand.
Schefter received criticism for how he broke the news, in which he shared a photo of Pierre-Paul’s medical records, records that he had obtained from a source.
According to NFL.com reporter Ian Rapoport, the amputation could be to speed up the player’s recovery time. The Ravens would understand that JPP would be out for the season as he rehabbed his hand and got back slowly, and Jason Pierre-Paul would understand that a winning organization has his back. Multiple reports on Wednesday said Giants officials who flew to Florida to check on him were not able to meet with him at the hospital and ultimately returned to New York.
Complicating Pierre-Paul’s situation is he is not under contract with the Giants, one reason the team has been reticent to make any public statements about the incident.
Neighbors said Pierre-Paul rented a U-Haul van that was full of fireworks for a Fourth of July celebration Saturday and made his plans for a major display known to those in his neighborhood.
From the sounds of things, the non-football injury list is likely were Pierre-Paul is headed.
One source characterized the timeline for Pierre-Paul’s return as being “sooner than people think” and said he still is expected to play this season.
The 15th overall pick in the 2010 draft, Pierre-Paul has 42 sacks in 75 games.
Wilson is in the final season of his two-year deal that carries a nonguaranteed base salary of $585,000 for the 2015 season.
Pierre-Paul and Wilson learned valuable lessons the hard way: Fireworks, no matter what size, are best viewed from afar and should be handled by the pros. Wilson had two fingers amputated, according to ESPN, following his own incident in his hometown of Lincolnton, North Carolina.
However, Pierre-Paul avoided the Giants officials – a decision that appears more understandable in retrospect, if he was undergoing surgery.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy says: “We have an opportunity now to deliver one of the most unique sporting and entertainment venues in the world, bringing together the EPL and National Football League for the first time”. The Giants used the franchise tag on the two-time Pro Bowler, but he is not under contract since he has not signed his $14.8 million tender.
