The Libertines cancelled their gig because Pete Doherty went AWOL
But after being left waiting for almost three hours, fans were finally told that the show was going to be postponed due to a “medical situation” leading to many by now angry fans throwing cups at the stage.
After fans received mixed messages from various venue staff, a voice came over the speaker system informing the crowd that the show had been postponed due to “an emergency – a medical situation”.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances tonight the Libertines have had to postpone their sold out shows at the Electric Ballroom in Camden and at the Ritz in Manchester tomorrow night”, the statement read.
The band – consisting of Pete, Carl Barat, John Hassall and Gary Powell – later took to their official Facebook page to apologise for the cancellations.
Mike Gordon posted: “My biggest issue last night was the complete lack of communication until after the bar had shut”.
“I do hope this is a genuine case but time after time when this happens, fans are never given a proper explanation and told that’s just the Pete/The libertines”.
Doherty’s manager said he had “no comment” in regards to his whereabouts.
Singer Pete Doherty has had a long battle with drugs and alcohol but has spoken recently about getting clean.
“If Pete Doherty actually turns out to be locked in a Wetherspoons toilet the humour will kill me”, one person wrote.
The gig at Camden’s Electric Ballroom was part of the reunited band’s intimate club tour that has been taking place this week, in the run up to the release of their third album “Anthems For Doomed Youth”.
