Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition Finally Gets Android 5.1 Lollipop
How could it not be? This means that the update will come to some devices on a later date.
When the Galaxy S4 was launched, Samsung did introduce a stock Android equivalent in the form of “Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition”. The largest rate of adoption so far happened in May after the release of flagship handsets including Samsung’s Galaxy S6/Galaxy S6 Edge and HTC’s One M9.
The small populace, who have purchased GPE smartphones, might have lost all hope of receiving software patches for their defunct devices.
Well, there are still a bunch of folks holding on the Galaxy S4 GPe, and today we bring them some good news.
The mobile carrier Sprint started rolling out the Android update since last September 3.
Just like any software update, the new Android 5.1.1 update for Galaxy E5 is being rolled out in phases, meaning that it could take a while until it spreads to everybody.
Other devices under Motorola that are expected to grab the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop upgrade in the near future are Moto G 2013, Moto G 2014, Moto X 2-13, Moto X 2014, and all the DROID devices. Users are encouraged to back up their files before proceeding with the manual installation. The Lollipop update has been delayed for the GPe platform as it was readily available for Nexus devices since February.
The firmware patch is now seeding to the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z Wi-Fi and Xperia Tablet Z LTE models.
The new Samsung Galaxy E5 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update has build number E500FXXU1BOH7 and it might have size of over 1 GB. Users should note that both Google and Samsung seem to have sidelined GPe devices from their periodic OTA release schedules and hence there is a serious dearth of OTA updates for these devices in recent times. “In this case there will be different build numbers – for example T-Mobile’s is LYZ28K”, GSM Arena explained.
