Xbox One Prepares For Backward Compatibility And Windows 10 Streaming
Details are pretty thin at the moment, but Criterion promise to have more information soon. The update is bereft of new features, but it prepares consoles for Windows 10 streaming and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility. Aside from general game titles across all genres making the cut, especially big AAA titles like “Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition”, “Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor”, and “Borderlands: The Handsome Collection”, Microsoft will also be adding newer, more recent releases to the mix.
The streaming feature for now, is only available in the preview program.
Discounts for numerous game titles will apply to both Xbox One and 360 versions.
Microsoft has previously announced that its new Windows 10 operating system will be available beginning July 29.
Another barrier Microsoft has to face is get permission from the publisher to make a specific game backwards compatible to the Xbox One. After the game has finished downloading, you will still need to keep the game disc in the drive to play.
“The team took the approach of effectively running the whole 360 OS on the Xbox One, which is why you can play with Live and everything else”.
Xbox One consoles are displayed on stage before being handed out during a midnight launch event in New York November 21, 2013.
There are rumors that once Windows 10 arrives, a more open application environment for the home console will be introduced. “Cortana helps you elevate your game, gets smarter over time, and works across all your Windows 10 PCs, tablets and phones through voice commands”.
