Microsoft announces Xbox Ultimate Game Sale – Life and style – Mid-Day
The latest sales figures for the big games consoles don’t make particularly good reading for Microsoft’s flagship Xbox One, unless you take a peculiarly blinkered US-only view. The update is bereft of new features, but it prepares consoles for Windows 10 streaming and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility. According to developer VRWERX, the folks behind Paranormal Activity VR for Xbox One, the Xbox One will natively support Oculus Rift, a feature that Microsoft have not yet officially announced.
A handful of games are already available for preview members, but its set to officially roll out by “holiday 2015”. However, the feature is still in testing as of the moment, and it will be widely available to Xbox One users later this year.
Aside from that, some Xbox Live Arcade and indie games will also go on sale, the report added.
“Later today Xbox One owners will be getting a system update”, wrote Hryb in a brief July 7 post.
Game streaming for Windows 10 will be available from July 29th.
Since the launch of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, many old games have received a visual upgrade and were relaunched for new consoles.
Microsoft structured Windows 10 with common core services that are capable of running underneath to the broad variety of devices. But there are some shortcomings, cautioned Microsoft. “We look forward to sharing more title announcements each month”, said the company. However, this update doesn’t bring any new significant features for the users, apart from the behind-the-scenes work.
Xbox One becoming backward compatible is not a simple flip of a switch or installation of a patch.
